4 Tips To Planning a Holiday Vacation in Belize
Belize has quickly become one of the most popular destinations in the world. Tourists, adventurers and even retirees are flocking to Belize to enjoy its beautiful weather, amazing scenery, and the endless amount of things to do in Belize. If you are planning a holiday vacation in Belize — whether it’s with your family, just your spouse, or even a solo trip—you will want to be prepared. The following are 4 great tips you’ll need when planning a holiday vacation to this traveler’s paradise.
Here are 4 Tips To Planning a Holiday Vacation in Belize:
Tip #1: Know the seasons
The most important thing you need to know when planning a vacation in Belize is that there are distinct seasons that can make traveling better—or worse—depending on what you’re interested in doing in the country.
From November to April, Belize is in the “dry season.” This means that the weather is generally warm, sunny, and without any major storms. There may be some rain in November and December, but not much. This season is best if you are interested in doing lots of outdoor activities, like snorkeling, swimming, paddling, and exploring. This is the most popular time to visit Belize, and it’s during the dry season that Belize is filled with travelers.
From June through October, Belize is in its “green” season. There’s regular rain during this season, which usually lasts for at least an hour to a few hours at a time. During the green season, storms or rain can happen seemingly at random, so it’s best to avoid outdoor activities where getting caught in a storm could be dangerous. There won’t be as many tourists in Belize during this season, and prices for hotels will usually be cheaper.
Tip #2: Carry cash (and exchange USD if you can)
If you are going to vacation in Belize, its a good idea to have cash on hand when possible. Most shops and marketplaces in Belize will accept with Belize dollars or USD—but not Canadian, European or other foreign currency. You should always carry some cash when you plan to shop while you vacation in Belize due to the fact that not everyone will be able to accept a foreign card. If you can, exchange your USD to Belize dollars, especially if you are going to buy from markets or street vendors, as you may be able to get a better deal.
Tip #3: Keep peak seasons in mind when booking travel and accommodations
When you’re ready to book your flight and hotel or other accommodations, you need to remember the peak seasons, which were discussed above. If you book a trip that lands during the dry season, you can expect to pay a few hundred dollars more at least when compared to booking during the green or “off-tourist” season.
Tip #4: Forget strict schedules
One of the most important things to remember when booking a vacation in Belize is that strict schedules should be tossed out of the window and forgotten. Belize is on island time, which means everyone goes at their own pace. Buses and cabs and tour guides will show up—but they might be 5, 10 or 20 minutes later than you expect. Relax, be patient—and have fun!
